A retrospective post, but wanted to record the generosity, warmth and hospitality of my wonderful Slovenian friends Roman and Jana Šturm.
Arrived in LJB, to be met by Roman and Jana and entertained royally at their home in Gradisce. We walked through the city that evening, took coffee and cake in 'Lolita', a beautiful new cafe by the river. We saw an otter, my first ever!
And back for a beautiful meal with the most ginormous fresh salad from the garden.
In the morning we headed for Piran, and to Roman and Jana's beautiful flat around the far side of the promontory; modern, fresh and all mine for three whole days! On the way we stopped off to meet up with friends, had a wander round the seafront, and later met again and drove into the hills for a spectacular meal. No menu, just what came. Delicious, fresh, and very Slovenian. Great prawns!
So to relax. Gentle wanders around the coastal path to Piran, lazy swimming in the warm Med. Reading, eating, and resting.
Until the Tuesday, when the FIS meetings started, and sadly had to wheel my belongings around the path to join the political maelstrom that characterised the 2011 Calendar Conference. Great to meet up with the moped antipodeans - Eric Henry, Neill Bell and kiwi David Howden. not to be outdone, I rented a bicycle to get from Piran to the Portoroz conference hotel, a very enjoyable 10min ride around the seafront.
Busy, interesting, productive, especially the sorting out of the medical guidelines. Good to have an ally in Larry Gaul.
Seems a long time ago now (posting this in November), but some great memories, and so grateful to Roman and Jana.
